Book Wish List - August 2023

Updated: Jul 27, 2023

Hello fellow book lovers and welcome to my wish list of books for August 2023!

This month, I have fallen down the rabbit hole of TikTok hype, as well as been intrigued by new novels creating buzz on Goodreads and Twitter.

So, here are my top 10 books for August, all available from Amazon via the links below:

1. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is the new book that everyone is talking about all over social media. All I had to hear was "dragons" and I was sold! This is an adventure-filled fantasy story set in a brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders. There are juicy secrets, back-stabbing agendas, betrayal and even romance woven in and I am very excited to read this one.

2. Yellowface by Rebecca F. Kuang is another book that has been making waves across social media. It is a story about an author who dies in a freak accident, then has her stolen work published by a fellow writer, and the subsequent race to protect the secret and the success that this lie brings. This book also questions cultural appropriation and racism, which are two topics I like to see explored in books, so this one is definitely on my list.

3. Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah is an exciting novel about a highly-controversial entertainment show set in America's private prison industry, where women gladiators compete in death matches to win their freedom. It's giving me Hunger Game vibes but in a real world setting that (sadly) doesn't sound that far removed from being possible. Still, I can't wait to find out more about this.

4. Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano has been described as a gripping family drama about four sisters with an unshakeable bond, which is soon put to the test when a man enters their lives with a dark past that threatens to break their family apart. What is the mystery behind this and can the sisters find their way back to each other before it's too late? I'm looking forward to finding out!

5. Chaos Theory by Nic Stone is a story about mental health, loss, addiction and ultimately finding love among the chaos. I desperately want to find out more about the characters in this story, as well as their struggles and their connection, as mental health is a topic that is close to my heart and another subject I love to see covered in a novel.

6. The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer is a heartwarming and magical novel about a woman who, as a lonely child, found solace in a collection of books called the 'Clock Island' series written by a reclusive children's author who mysteriously disappeared many years ago. But now he's back with a brand-new book and he's offering a prize to one lucky winner that could change their lives forever. Colour me intrigued...

7. Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan is a romance novel about second chances, after a couple who have been through a divorce find their way back to each other - until old wounds reopen. Now usually, I'm not really into the romance genre, but these books don't usually explore divorced couples either, so this story has sparked my interest and I feel like I want to know more.

8. Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Torzs is a story about two sisters who have been raised to protect a collection of rare ancient magical books, which actually turn out to be quite deadly. Suddenly, they learn that there are secrets that their parents kept hidden from them and they uncover a world of magic that is much bigger than either of them expected. This meshes both fantasy and thriller together and I am very excited to get into this world!

9. None Of This Is True by Lisa Jewell is a pyschological thriller about a popular true crime podcaster who meets a woman with an interesting subject for her next series. But soon it appears that there are some very dark secrets being hidden, and now this woman has suddenly disappeared. What is going on here? This novel sounds full of suspense and mystery, and I love a good story with a few twists.

10. They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera has been on my radar for a while and has recently popped up again through #BookTok. The premise is this: imagine getting a call that tells you that today is your End Day, also known as the day you die. What do you do? Well, for this story, two strangers meet up through an app called the Last Friend to have one last adventure and live their best lives in a single day. What will happen to them.... and do they really die at the end? I need to know!

And that's my book wish list for August 2023! If you have read any of these books or have any more recommendations, please feel free to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.

Happy reading everyone!
